If sponsors are the lifeblood of parkrun then volunteers are the heart.
Without our volunteers, we could not offer you these free events. It is because of the volunteers that parkrun can maintain its not-for-profit status all the while providing sustainable events.
Volunteering at parkrun
- Each parkrun event is organised by local volunteers, supported as required by the parkrun organisation.
- Each event has a volunteer co-ordinator who allocates roles each week – there are usually between 4 and 12 volunteers each week per event.
- Typical roles for volunteers on the day of an event are: timing, registration, finish funnel management, marshalling, dealing with runners’ enquiries, set up and take down.
- Each event usually requires only one hour of a volunteer’s time.
- Typical roles for volunteers as part of an event committee are: gaining agreement for a new event, race director, results production, volunteer co-ordinator, race reporting, PR & marketing, photography, health and safety, statistical analysis, and local fundraising.
